HANDCRAFTED WOOD DINING TABLE

PRECISE REPLICATION IN AMERICAN WALNUT

The Opportunity

Having been so taken by a friend’s dining table while on a visit to Canada, this client came home wanting to replicate the design for her own table. She had taken accurate measurements and images of the table and drawn up some plans of her own. Certain of her design for the American Walnut dining table - she just needed to find a furniture maker who could realise her vision.

The Action

She approached Joey with a clear and prescriptive brief to build her dining table and together they discussed techniques and studied the photographs of the Canadian version.

“It’s then that I realised it actually looked a little mass-produced. So, I suggested yes she could replicate the design but I think there are better ways to do the joinery,” says Joey.

Being open to modifications for good reason made sense to the client and the dining table went ahead.

The Result

The result was a better built, precise replication of the American Walnut dining table the client had originally fallen in love with. A year later, Kingpost Timberworks returned to resolve contraction issues with the tabletop. An expected part of the settling process for new timber works and sorted easily with a professional refinish.

A wonderful job of our very prescriptive brief

“We were looking online for a local furniture maker and I'm very pleased I found Joey at Kingpost. He did a wonderful job of our very prescriptive brief for a specific size dining table we had drawn up ourselves. It’s American walnut. Joey is very skilled and meticulous.”
